Welcome Back for Fall 2010

Welcome back to campus.  We hope you had a great summer.  We have several local events and activities planned for October.

To begin, leading up to the national day in defense of public education on October 7th, we are asking lecturers and librarians to distribute the "Rethink UC" flyer to your students in the first two weeks of class.  Here is a tiny url you can forward to students:  tinyurl.com/RethinkUCOct7.  Also, you can access access the flyer for the event, in PDF form, by clicking here.  Local 2141 will provide hard-copies of the flyer upon request.

We will be conducting a workshop called Demystifying the 6th Year Review in mid-October for lecturers who are approaching their excellence review.  We will also be conducting a new member orientation for those who have recently joined the union, or who would like to learn more about UC-AFT before joining.

On October 19, working with the UCSB union coalition we will be hosting a workshop on pension and retiree health reform.

Finally, our local will be participating in various election related activities leading up to November 2.

If you have not yet become a member of UC-AFT, please consider joining.  If you have questions about membership, feel free to contact the local field representative, Bill Quirk, or any of the local executive board officers listed on our contacts page.  You can download the membership form and mail it to the address at the bottom of the form.
