Welcome to the UC-AFT Local 2141 Homepage

The University Council-American Federation of Teachers (UC-AFT) has been the union of Lecturers and Librarians at UC since 1982. Our mission is to improve the working conditions of Non-Senate Faculty (NSF) within the UC system. We negotiated and ratified the original Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 1986, and successor agreements since then. Recent negotiations established the first ever indefinite contract for Lecturers (2003) and significant pay increases for all Lecturers (2007). Our daily efforts are focused on assisting our members, enforcing our contract, and building a stronger union. Our union is run by an elected Executive Board and a volunteer system-wide Council. We have an Executive Director based in Oakland and a staff member working on every campus. UC-AFT is affiliated with the California Federation of Teachers and the American Federation of Teachers.

If you have questions, feel free to contact our webmaster, Christopher Dean, at cdean@writing.ucsb.edu.

Local 2141 Spring Reception

Local 2141 held our annual spring reception on Friday May 27th at the MCC Lounge.  We displayed the professional work of about a dozen of our members, had a great presentation of some recent research being done by Anthropology lecturer, Sabrina Curran, gave a pitch for the Unit 18 Professional Development Fund, and a brief mention of UC-AFT's endorsements for the UCRS elections.

Folks: You definitely want to look at this PDF.  It is a description of the new health plans for all unit 18 members.  If you are a Healthnet member, your costs, if you do not change to the new "Blue and Gold Plan," could double in cost.  Check out this PDF: http://ucsb.ucaft.org/webfm_send/26
